What is an Actrix Free Email Address?
A free Actrix email address such as yourname@actrix.co.nz was provided free with your Actrix Internet connection. This was common practice for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the late '90s and 2000s but became less popular as free advertising-supported email services such as Hotmail and Gmail became more widely adopted.
Many NZ ISPs have closed their free email service in recent years due to the cost of operating and supporting the service.
What's changing?
From 1 September 2021, we're making some changes to the Actrix email service:
- Actrix email accounts will be charged $4.95 inc GST per month, per email account.
- We've upgraded the spam and virus protection on email accounts
- We're increasing the mailbox storage by 4x to 1000MB (1GB)
- Additional storage can be added for $4.95 inc GST per GB, per month
How to do I check my Actrix Email Address?
The easiest way to check for messages in your Actrix email address is to log in to webmail at https://webmail.voyager.nz/
If you are unsure of your password, please call our support team on 0800 477 333 between 8 am and 10 pm 7 days a week to reset your password.
Is the charge per email account or per email message?
For absolute certainty, and to leave no doubt, it is the email account/address that has the charge of $4.95 inc GST per month. You can send and receive as many messages as you like for that single monthly charge.
If you have two email accounts, you will be billed 2 x $4.95, per month.
What other free email options are there?
There's a lot to like about a paid local email service like the service that Voyager offers:
- NZ Local support with a phone number you can call if you need help
- No advertising
- Governed by NZ data privacy laws
- Your data is local and covered by NZ jurisdiction.
However, you do have options if you wish to have a free email address.
There are a few advertising-supported free email services such as Gmail and Outlook.com but do keep in mind that these services are free because they are supported by advertising. Free email services use your emails and personal data to improve their marketing, they are usually offshore-based with different jurisdictions and they usually do not have a free phone number you can call for support.
Please note that we are not able to assist you with technical support for using or configuring 3rd party free email services like Gmail.
How to change over to using a free email address
While we do not provide technical support for 3rd party free email providers, we have outlined below the general steps you need to take to migrate to a different email address.
If you have signed up to a free email address, you will want to re-create all of your contacts in the new email platform and forward any emails you wish to retain to your new address. Some providers offer a mail import tool to let you import your email from your existing mailbox.
Once you have done this, ask us to forward any new email from your @actrix.co.nz email address through to your new free email address. You will want to keep this in place for a few months, while you update your contacts about your new email address.
You will incur the monthly fee of $4.95 inc GST for as long as the Actrix mailbox and forwarder is still in use.
Can I upgrade the mailbox storage?
Yes! if you want to upgrade your storage space for your current 1GB mailbox, then we have the following upgrade options available:

I currently pay for a storage upgrade, what happens to that fee?
The new mailbox size will be 1000MB (1GB). This is a 4x increase to the original 250MB mailbox size.
Some customers paid for a mailbox upgrade. If you paid for a mailbox upgrade up to 1GB, you will no longer pay this fee. If you paid for a mailbox over 1GB in size, the charge will be revised to $4.95 + GST per 1GB of storage.
How do I cancel my Actrix Email Address?
If you no longer need your mailbox and would like to cancel, please reply back to the email notification that has been sent to you.
Your active subscriptions will be detailed on the email. Let us know which service to cancel. Please include the billing reference (starting with V11) to help us identify the service.
Important things to know before you cancel:
- Please ensure you no longer require the email account, and that you have downloaded or forwarded any emails you might need before requesting cancellation.
- Your cancellation request is considered immediate and your email account, and all emails stored on the server will be deleted within 1 - 2 days.
- If you cancel in error, we may be able to recover from backup within 7 days. A fee of $85 + GST will apply to recreate and restore your email (per email account).
- Any billing changes will take effect on the next billing day for your account.
